It's a Duck's Life is a YUSU Society that provides a student-run welfare service.
You're probably wondering why York needs another welfare service; afterall there are plenty of others here at the University, such as the Counselling Service, the University Health Centre, Nightline, YUSU Welfare and college drop-in sessions. These services are all beneficial in their own way, but they do not reduce the sense of isolation that may be experienced by people suffering with difficulties, which may be anything from anorexia to depression, or relationship trouble to social isolation.
It's a Duck's Life brings students together to share their experiences, and learn from those of others; learning that other people may be having similar problems to you can help a lot in coping with – or indeed recovering from – your problem. This can be done via our:
· Website
www.duckslife.org has articles which are written by students (who are independant of the Duck's Life committee) who suffer from such problems, so that others can find similarities with their own situations and discover that they're not alone in the difficulties they face. Also, the Forum section allows people to interact with others who may be experiencing similar difficulties.
· Magazine
The annual magazine (with articles written by students suffering/overcoming problems).
To see the various categories of difficulties students may face, click on "Articles" or "Forum" above.
So, if you want quick tips, if you want to stop everyone else making the same mistakes you have, or if you feel like everything in your world is a big pile of poo, remember: It's Duck's Life might just be of some help. And remember that the project relies on articles and forum posts from everyone out there.
We hope you find this website useful during your time at The University of York, and we wish you all the best.
